Description
Habit:
Scandent or climbing shrub 1 - 2 m long. Branches glabrous in older plants, pubescent in young ones.
Leaves:
solitary, alternate or 2 - 4 fasciculate, pubescent on both sides with medifixed adpressed hairs, more dense below, elliptic, obovate, 8 - 45 x 2.5 - 15 mm, obtuse, acute to retuse at the apex, rounded to cuneate at the base; 2 - 3(- 5) lateral veins, more evident beneath; petiole 0 – 5 mm long, pubescent.
Inflorescences:
Male inflorescence axillary, solitary, cymose or paniculate, 4 - 7-flowered, pubescent; peduncle 0 - 1 mm long; bracts lanceolate, 2 mm long. Female inflorescence axillary, solitary or 2 - 3 fascicled; sessile or with peduncle 0.5 mm long.
Flowers:
Male flowers: pedicel 2.5 - 8 mm long. Sepals 5, ± equal, 2.5 - 3.5 x 1.5 - 2 mm, oblanceolate, pubescent on the outside. Corolla white, 7 - 8 mm long, 5-lobed, each lobe 0.5 - 1 x 3.5 - 4 mm, pubescent on the outside. Stamens 5, ± equal, filaments 4.5 - 6.5 mm long; anthers 1.5 - 1.8 mm long; pistillode with 2 styles 6 - 8 mm long.
Female flowers: pedicels 7- 10 mm long extending to 10- 16 mm long. Sepals 5, obovate or spathulate, slightly unequal in width, 3 outer ones 5 - 6 x 3.5 - 4 mm, 2 inner ones c. 5 x 3 mm. Corolla white, 6 mm long, tube 3 mm long; 5-lobed, each lobe c. 3 x 1.7 mm, pubescent on the outside. Pistil with 2 styles 3- 4 mm long and branched stigma. Ovary 2-locular, 2 ovules in each locule; ovate, hairy at apex; staminodes 5, ± equal with filaments c. 3.5mm long. Fruiting sepals 5, all accrescent, ± equal, 6 - 10 x 5.5 - 10 mm, spathulate or obovate, clawed at the base for 1.5 - 2 mm, obtuse to retuse at the apex, sparsely pubescent on both sides.

Open Acacia-Commiphora-Boswellia-Lannea-Combretum-Terminalia bushland with scattered trees on red loamy or sandy soil or on a mixture of marble and gypsum; 325 – 1850m.

Gaalee
It is used for forage (Gemedo-Dalle, Maass, Isselstein 2005).
General comments:
The species is characterized by the leaves covered with adpressed hairs; in male flowers by the pistillode with the style longer than the corolla, and in female flowers by the pedicels up to 15 mm long.
