Description
Habit:
Liana, all parts appressed brownish hairy; stems to 6 m.
Leaves:
Leaves broadly elliptic to ovate, 6.7–11.6 cm by 4.1–6.0 cm, coriaceous, base rounded or retuse, apex obtuse to rounded, mucronate, upper side glabrous, underside sparsely hairy; lateral veins usually 7 (6–8) per side; petiole stout, 1.4–3.7 cm.
Inflorescences:
Inflorescences axillary or terminal on lateral branches, crowded-paniculate, many-flowered, bracteose; peduncle: when axillary stout, 1–2.5 cm long, often hidden, when terminal 8–18.6 cm; bracts orbicular-obovate, concave, 0.7–1 cm long, persistent; pedicels 0–6 mm long.
Flowers:
Flower sepals subequal, outer 2 broader, obovate to orbicular, 6–8 mm long, rounded, concave, apex and margins randomly torn; corolla campanulate-funnelform, 2.3–2.6 by 1.5–2.0 cm, limb shallowly 5-lobed, lobes erect (not spreading), white or pale pinkish, red-violet inside tube, midpetaline bands golden sericeous outside, glabrous elsewhere; stamens included, subequal, 14–15.5 mm, filament bases glabrous, anthers sagittate; pistil included, disc 5-lobulate, ovary glabrous, style 13–15 mm long.
Fruits:
Berry broadly ellipsoid, 11–14 by 7–10 mm diam., red, base clasped by persistent (but scarcely enlarged) calyx.
Seeds:
Seed 1, ellipsoid, 9 mm, black.
